The Stainless Steel Wireless One Hit Wonder is an upgraded version of the original Wireless One Hit Wonder, which was made out of Titanium. Titanium, while being very fast to heat up to temperature, also cools down much faster than Stainless Steel.
There are times when titanium makes sense, however in a baller head, the added weight and heat retention of Stainless Steel is much better suited for wireless functionality.
The original Wireless One Hit Wonder stormed on to the Ball Vape scene and quickly became a recommended device for entry into the space. Affordable, adaptable and elevating DHV sessions for people who’ve never experienced a Ball Vape before I was quickly introduced to OHE (one heat extraction / one hit extraction), a DHV equivalent of a bong rip. It is also has an added perk of including methods of diffusion or injection, as typically other heads are either / or.
While a fully capable device, it did have some shortcomings. The titanium housing is quick to cool down and is light. The stock gem cuts that it comes with can have inconsistent heat distribution and airflow restriction, although you can replace the material. Vapor quality can be on the harsher side when you add it all up. Additionally, the diffuser was not a standard 22 mm size, restricting compatibility to the Crossing TI Matrix bowl.
Enter the Stainless Steel upgrade.
The new revision takes the weaknesses of the original and addresses every one. No longer clad in TI, the stainless steel adds heft and heat retention. An added ring around the top of the head allows it to sit neatly in a 25 mm coil, the same size as the previous revision. My unit was purchased from The Dab Hut (more on them later) who has the weight of the head at 56g without handle.
The gem cuts are out, and in their place Ruby balls. I prefer the more open draw of 3.0 mm material so that’s what I’ve been running with. The Dab Hut sells other media that comes packaged in a well branded little plastic container, explicitly telling you material type, and weight.
The SSWOHW also adds a new feature, modularity. The previous version did not use a standard diffuser size, as we previously stated. While the Crossing TI Matrix bowl is great for large load sizes, the bowl is deep which is not conductive to microdosing. There was no great way to get your herb close to the heat source.
The SSWOHW now has an adapter which can screw on and off. It ships with 2, one for standard 22 mm diffuser bowls and one for the Crossing TI Matrix bowl. This modularity gives a pathway to future adapters for added functionality down the line.
Performance, Experience and Comparison
I ordered the SS Wireless One Hit Wonder from The Dab Hut. They were fantastic to work with and provide multiple kits and configurations depending on your needs. Not only do they sell it, but they also designed it! You won’t find a better resource as they know the product, literally from the inside out.
Initially I ordered the heater only option as I have a few other head / coil combos.
Shipping was extremely fast, I placed the order on a Wednesday night and I had it at my door on Saturday!
Word of caution though, while testing with various bowl combinations, we set it off axis on one of the Vapvana Screwball Bowls. This, unfortunately caused a thermal lock like I’ve never experienced. I have locked other heads to this bowl, but a brief time in the freezer usually did the trick.
Not this time.
Fortunately Chuck from The Dab Hut was able to send me a replacement adapter the next day. An added benefit of the modularity we spoke about earlier, I was able to unscrew the head from the adapter and use the other 21.5 mm adapter and the Crossing TI Bowl while I waited on Mr. Postman. Injector functionality remained unchanged.
Vapvana bowls should stay in that Eco System, lesson learned.
Other bowls have been great, including diffusers from Ed’s TnT, Tidow SS diffuser bowls, Ruby Twist Microdose bowl, glass bowls from The Dab Hut and the Glass bowls from The Terp Chasers Club.
During testing, The Dab Hut started selling the SS WOHW housing only. (No material, no handles, bare bones as it gets). Still suffering from thermal lock shock, I jumped on that right away just from a parts aspect, but I have enough stock lying around that I simply built another functional head.
I had filled the first head with 3.0 mm ZirC. This head I filled with 3.0 mm Rubies.
Right away the flavor upgrade was noticeable, but the power upgrade afforded by the added mass smacked harder than I expected. If the original TI was a right cross, the SS upgrade is a Tyson Uppercut, and not that Jake Paul No Legged Tyson either.
Take Me Down to Flava Town
I am typically not a flavor chaser. I do not *pinky out* sip ball vapes. I rip them, and I like my ABV to be on the darker side of things. One Heat Extraction is my goal and I tend to like the added conduction of diffusers, over the convection heavy injectors.
For testing, I wanted to compare The SSWOHW filled with both ZirC and Ruby to the king of flavor, the Universal Baller.
All three were heated in a 5 wrap axial with a crossing dual PID set to 585 to keep temperatures as consistent as possible.
The strain of the day is Sherbalato, a sativa dominant hybrid strain that’s on the super fruity side with a bit of citrus spice thrown in.
The Microdose Glass Bowl from Terp Chasers Club will be used for consistency and sobriety.
We’ll also be going in dry for maximum flavonoids or whatever.
The Universal Baller by Terp Chasers Club is another fantastic entry in this space, often taking the #1 spot by a lot of people. Another head with a few different configuration options available, I prefer to run mine with the included 2.0 mm sapphires and the quartz chamber giving an all glass vapor path. I do put a screen on the bowl, however I find zero flavor impact. YMMV.
The Universal Baller gives smooth, well rounded hits. The citrus of the strain is there, but has very little bite. No terp tickle to be found.
The SS Wireless One Hit Wonder with Rubies is extremely close in flavor with slightly more terp bite compared to the UB, but with more even roasting due to the wider air path. The UB has a quartz high airflow disc which provides 15 openings (They do also have a fritted disk they include, but I find that more restrictive.), but is more narrow in focus, which is apparent when you compare to the air path on the SSWOHW.
The SS Wireless One Hit Wonder with ZirC Traditionally ZirC and Ruby have different thermal conductivity, where ZirC is preferred for low temp, high flavor sessions, however that isn’t how I’m testing with these setups. Extraction time and time to vapor are similar for the bowl/load size I’m using. What I’m finding is the ZirC gives a sharper accent to the terps. I can feel it more in my nasal passages on the exhale, with the sharpness of the citrus cutting through.
Wrap Up
The Stainless Steel Wireless One Hit Wonder is a grand slam home run. One of the few times the sequel is better than the original.
I didn’t touch on the effects. However, the added mass is noticeable. Its hits can be as conductively stoney as you want them to go.
It has excellent flavor, and depending on the strain, there are sometimes I reach for the overall smoothness of the Universal Baller, while other times I want the sharper bite the WOHW can provide.
Do not hesitate to add this to your arsenal. If you’re having trouble deciding on what configuration is right for you, reach out to The Dab Hut. They offer a personal touch.
Speaking of The Dab Hut, the packaging was well thought out. The branding is on point. The included fold out poster is fantastic. It includes all you need to know about setting up your device, loading it, using it, and even answers some common FAQs.
I can not recommend them or the SS Wireless One Hit Wonder enough.
